It's a wonderful world!!

A few days back, I saw my daughter reading Harry Potter part 6 on Kindle. Every now and then, she would come to me and ask me to google a character. "Mom, how does Professor Horace Slughorn look like?" Then she searched for a few more characters. I was a little agitated. I told her not to google images and let her imagination work. To this she replied, "I have already seen the movies. I just forgot their faces."

I should have introduced her to the books first and then to the movies. Unknowingly, I probably discouraged  her to stretch her imagination and offered her readymade solutions. Kids connect to fiction very easily. Their active imagination works its magic and the characters, situations, landscapes come alive. The bombardment of audio-visual medium has curb the active imagination to some extent.

Reading a beautiful story will take you on journey, where you will be able to explore the people, their relationships, homes, the food they eat, sounds around, etc. You can experience the world the way you want it to be. There has to be balance between watching audio-visual mediums and reading books.

It's a beautiful world of books!!!
